District 12, Diary
My name is Terra Dunbryall, I am 16 years old, and I am from District 12. I live with my parents, who own the town general store, and my younger brother. I go to school in the only one in the whole district, but all of that changed at this year’s reaping.
My best friend, Madge, and I were walking to reaping. We were both wondering who will be our next tributes. We know it won't be use because we only have to put our names in three times, unlike the poor kids in the Seam who have to apply for terrace. We both know that we will never have to apply for it. However, neither of us knew that this reaping would split us apart forever. As we stand uneasily in the crowd, Effie Trinket walks up to the stage. She reaches down into the glass bowl and picks out the slip of paper that ruined my life.
“Madge Donner.” Effie Trinket says with a smile. She just stands rooted to the spot with fear. A guard rips her from me and drags her up to the stage. She finds my eyes and we both know what each other are saying without the need for words. Finally, after calling Huck Cronin, we are allowed to visit the tributes for one hour. I go in after he mother who walks out tearfully. I promise her I’ll do what she wants, give her a hug and walk out before I start crying.
The next day, I put up a notice for everyone in my grade to meet me at my house to discuss what Madge told me to do. When everyone gets there, I explain, we are going to start an uprising.
