Transforming your thinking, sixth post
1. The mian theme of the book is a black boy on trial for murder.
2. My thoughts on book before I began reading it was that it was going to be the trial at the beginning and then his life afterwards.
2. My thoughts on book before I began reading it was that it was going to be the trial at the beginning and then his life afterwards.
3. I think that the book drags on for a little too long and the trial got a bit boring after a while.
4. The world in my book became a better place in the end because the people that were acused of being guilty were proven innocent.

I don't think that Steve would have joined in the Stanley Cup riots. He is too nice of a guy to join in such a thing like that. "The best time to cry is at night," said Steve in the first chapter. This goes to show that he can be very sensitive and also likes to give advice to help someone else. He also talks about how he doesn't like all the violence that happens in prison.A guy like that would not be a part of something so violent like the Stanley Cup riot.
Visualize, fourth post
I chose this picture because it represents what Steve would probably be seeing for the whole time he was on trial. In the book, at the beginning of the trial Steve says to his lawyer "I'm scared" abd she replies "You should be." So he was probably very nervous thorough out the trial. This view would have scared him to death every day but also might have given him hope that he might one day walk out a free man.
Ask a question, third post
How do you think Steve is feeling as the trial proceeds?
Worried because it's not going in favor for him. However, there is so much going on that he could have a bit of hope that a witness could come in and prove that he is completly innocent. Also, he has a great defence loyer, who knows what she's doing so that will also help too.
How many/which of the witness's are telling what they saw so that it makes them look better and why?
I think that all of the witness's that have had run ins or near run ins with the law. They don't care if what they say will effect people lives. All they care about is their lives and that there happy. Many people only care about their lives and I think that some of these witneses are like that.
Do you think the jury and judge are pre-judging Steve because he's black? Why?
Yes I do. During those times everypeople including the jury judged people because of they're skin color. That one fact could lose him the the trial.

MAKE A CONNECTION, SECOND POST
text to world:
In the book Monster, the main character Steve, is on trial for murdering a man after robbing his store. My connection is the murder of a store manager, by three teens, in August 2012, in England. The three teens are charged for murder of a store manager, after refusing to sell them alcohol. The two stories are further connected by the fact that in both cases the boys were arrested with other people. They aren't the only ones being questioned. One difference is that the boys that killed Chris Poole were not planning on robbing and killing him, while the robbery that Steve was involved in was planned, although the killing was not. For these reasons I believe that the robbery and murder of Chris Poole is related to the book Monster.
Text to text:
Another connection to Monster is the play that the school is putting on, 12 Angry Women. The book and play are related to each other because they are both about a murder. The play is about a trial where 12 women are deciding whether or not someone is guilty of murder. Similarly, the book Monster is about Steve’s murder trial. The play is from a jury’s perspective, while Monster is from the perspective of the murderer.
